WW2 Canadian Armour

My WW2 Canadian armour is finished, painted by the excellent Erik (Bud) Sims.  This all goes for my Normandie project with tge Canadians fighting against the 12th SS and 21st Panzer.

In addition to the Canadian stuff, the last of my German stuff is also done ...

So all the vehicles are done now.  I'm selling off most my old armour for the Germans.  The last part of this project is to get the reinforce platoon sized formations painted up for the SS and Canadians.

Battle Report: Tanks in the Desert!

Just a quick Bolt Action WW2 AAR.

Recently the tiny COVID restricted band of weary lads got together at Dan's place to play a game in his garage.  I packed up my dice and tape measure and went over for a fun day of gaming.

John Lantz has recently finished up his desert WW2 forces and wanted to host a game.  This was just a tank duel in the desert - keeping it simple, but very fun.  No hard math or thinking much beyond "there're over there, get'em!"

I had a blast - John and I pulled out a victory playing with the 8th army forces.

Before jumping into some pictures - John brought along this super handy and very awesome player aid!  A gaming periscope!  We used this for all LOS and it worked excellently.  I've ordered 4 for my own games!  You to can grab one of these puppies right here.

Just look at those juicy targets!  My dice actually didn't suck for once so I was able to put lots of holes in those German tanks!

Table setup was easy-peasy.  The mat has been rolled up for a while but after about 30 minutes had settled.

Lots of explody tanks on fire.  I lost 3 of my 6 crusader tanks.  John managed to not loose a single Grant of his 3.  It was certainly a change of pace using tanks with light AT ... shells just kept bouncing off the armour.

That's it for today folks!

Home Schooling for Wargamers (Bolt Action)

This past Sunday I decided to teach my 11 year old how to play Bolt Action WW2.  He had asked me last weekend but I needed to do some tidying up and such so I made him a deal.  If he read the core Bolt Action rules during the week, we would play a game this past weekend.  Sure enough he read all the core rules!

I wanted to keep this simple and somewhat balanced, but also include armour and infantry.  We played British airborne vs. German Fallschirmjager.

British OOB:

1 x Sherman Firefly
2 x Cromwell
1 x Para Infantry Section
1 x Para Officer (+ Rifleman)
1 x Para Medic
1 x Para PIAT Team
1 x Para MMG Team

German OOB:

1 x Panzer IV
2 x Panzer III
1 x Fallschirmjager Infantry Section
1 x Fallschirmjager Officer (+ Rifleman)
1 x Fallschirmjager Medic
1 x Fallschirmjager PIAT Team
1 x Fallschirmjager MMG Team

He elected to play the Germans, mostly because I think he liked the camo pattern on the tanks.

I also decided to use a 4 foot by 6 foot table with a simple setup of just trees and fences/hedgerows.  No buildings or built up areas.  You can see the setup below.

So off we went.  My dice were more terrible than normal ... I don't recommend facing off against the luck of kids!  By the end of the game I had only managed to knock out one of the Panzer IIIs --- yes, just 1!!!  He destroyed all three of my tanks, killed my PIAT team and my Officer.  Tis a sad day when you have to actually use your officer to try to kill enemy units, but I was throwing everything I could at him by this point!

So, massive victory for the offspring.  I think the seed has been successfully planted.

Crappy phone pictures below of the action ...
