Battle Report: Guilford Courthouse

The time has come - after much work and time on this project it has finally come to fruition!

We happy few got together and played through the whole game with my updated AWI rules.  The good news is the scenario played out very historically.  The rules worked great ... just a few minor tweaks and I think they are good.

The American militia couldn't stand up against the regulars and got pushed back, and eventually broken, just as the regular continental units started to engage.  Alas, the Americans suffered just too many causalities and where forced to withdraw from the battle.  For the crown forces, the 71st Highlanders and Hessians took the brunt of the causalities, along with Tarleton's Legion cavalry.  The remaining crown units, while certainly not fresh, were is no danger of breaking.

Lots of pictures below. I was able to add a number of animals as scatter terrain to the table (chickens, hen, dog, cat, donkey, mule, goose with gooselings, and a flock of sheep - added my existing collection of live/dead cows.

First pictures are of the start of the battle and throughout the game with my SLR camera.  After are my phone pictures, including overhead pictures as the battle progressed.

That's it for now. It was a lot of fun to get together even in a small group to roll some dice and play a game I've been working on for some time. Up next is Breed's Hill ... coming very soon!

  1. Wow, splendid pictures. The figures are nicely painted but the nice terrain makes everything pop. The pics really tell a visual story.
