Epic Hail Caesar: Battle of Lake Trasimene

Managed to squeeze in a game of Epic Hail Caesar this last Sunday.  My goal is to play through each scenario in the rulebook (essentially all the major battles of the 2nd Punic War).

The first game was done at KublaCon Fall - the Battle of the Trebia.  The next battle up was the Battle of Lake Trasimene.

At Lake Trasimene, Gaius Flaminius led two Roman and two allied legions – numbering about 25,000 men in total. Hannibal probably had about 50,000 men, about half of them the veterans who had crossed the Alps with him, with the addition of heavy reinforcements from local Gaulish tribes. The only thing known for certain was that Hannibal’s army outnumbered Flaminius’s force.

You can download my scenario file for this battle here:

My Hail Caesar (2nd edition) rules reference can be downloaded here:

This was a close fought battle.  The Roman legions pushed hard towards the eastern table exit. A large melee ensued with the Libyan and Spanish infantry.  A bloody affair - and it came down to a single die roll on turn 6!  The Romans had a division - unbroken - ready to exit the table in their turn.  I had to get one more unit from the division to be Shaken to break the division.  My skirmishers managed to do just enough - by a single wound - to get that last Roman division to break.  Fun times!
